Recent studies have been showing the molecular epidemiologic data of newly emerging pathogens. It demonstrates the necessity of updated
vaccine to prevent the outbreak of infectious disease caused by newly emerging variants, including Infectious Bronchitis (IB) in poultry.
To monitor the emergence and develop updated vaccines against such variants, CTCVAC is participating in the international project
‘Interactive Seed Bank’ for vaccine strain selection, based on the molecular epidemiologic data including phylogenetic/phylogeographic
analysis and the antigen cartography, which visualize the information about the antigenic evolution of virus. Its purpose goes beyond just
the simple development of vaccines against existing pathogens. It is to address infectious diseases actively, by interacting with the newly
emerging pathogens.
Starting the project with Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV), we can expand this project to various infectious pathogens, which impose major
threats for animal health. As an active response to the emerging disease for animals, we predict the variant strain with high potential for
new emergence and develop vaccine, based on the ‘Seed Bank’.
